The Book of Quantum is a booklet designed by the Personal Injuries Assessment Board (PIAB) that provides as a general guidelines to the amount of compensation that may be awarded or assessed for in personal injury claims.
The book of quantum is intended to provide an indication as to the potential range of compensation for a particular injury. The caveat is that each injury and individual are different and it is impossible to provide a 'one size fits all' calculator for each injury.
Where advice is given in relation to the amount of compensation that may be reasonable for any award, the book of quantum can often act as a guide. However, in practice it is not always the only source of information as to valuing a claim and oftentimes experience in the practice of personal injury claims is a more accurate method of providing the true value of a claim.
